Lone Star Ballet brings back its popular TimeSteps dance revue after five years, with performances set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday in the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Buchanan St.
The show allows company dancers to bring to life beloved rock songs of the past several decades, including tunes by The Beatles, Nancy Sinatra, Elton John, ABBA, Stevie Wonder, Madonna and more. And it has proven popular for years.
“It’s not a normal ballet. It’s not traditional. It’s not so classical that everyone feels like they can come in their jeans and their T-shirts,” said Roxann Seaton, the company’s newly appointed artistic director and longtime performer. “It’s a more relaxed show, and (the audience gets) to join in and clap and hoop and holler. So I think they just enjoy it.”
The dancers also enjoy themselves, she said.
”They let loose a little bit more,” Seaton said. “They get to have a little bit of freestyle time, where they’re not just doing the choreography that’s been given to them.”

Dove Creek Equine Rescue is back in the saddle with its Unbridled art auction, which opens online Thursday and concludes with a cocktail party at 6 p.m. April 17 at Stoex Design Gallery, 723 S. Georgia St. (Full disclosure: Brick & Elm is a sponsor of the event.)
“It’s a wonderful way to connect people besides the normal fundraising we do at the ranch with the horses, and just connecting to art,” said Laurie Higgins-Kerley, founder and executive director. “It’s been so much fun.”
Each work up for sale is inspired in some way by the magnificent creatures Dove Creek works so hard to save.
“Horses have been around for 56 million years; they’re one of the oldest species,” Higgins-Kerley said. “They’ve been in so many areas of our history, from mythology to spiritual writings. They’ve just been in so many aspects of our evolution.
”And the horse, as we all know, is such an inspiring animal because they represent freedom and power and beauty and spirit,” Higgins-Kerley said.

And that’s not all for this busy, busy weekend: The popular Yellow City Comic Convention returns Friday for its annual, weekend-long celebration of pop culture.
Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Amarillo Civic Center Complex, 401 S. Buchanan St.
In addition to vendors and community booths, the con will feature a full line-up of celebrities: Emily Swallow of Supernatural and The Mandalorian; DJ Qualls and Osric Chau, also of Supernatural; voice actors Clifford Chapin, David Matranga and Kristen McGuire of My Hero Academia and other anime productions; and Andy Merrill of Space Ghost Coast to Coast and other Adult Swim productions.
