It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and no, your Christmas countdown clock isn’t broken.
The 98th Academy Awards will air at 6 p.m. March 15 on ABC and Hulu, so movie fanatics like me have just shy of two weeks to catch up with as many nominees as possible. (Click here for TV Line’s guide to where you can see them, though at least two—Sirat and Children No More: Were and Are Gone—are only available for pre-order.)
Many are out of Amarillo theaters now, but Cinemark Hollywood 16 will bring back all 10 Best Picture nominees at its annual Oscars Movie Week, which runs Monday through March 15. Each of the nominees gets at least two screenings during the week (Marty Supreme and Hamnet get three), so hopefully, you’ll have a chance to catch some of the biggest Oscar hopefuls (or, like me, rewatch some for the first time on a big screen). And, since the trend lately is that Best Pic nominees get nods all across the field, you’ll be able to clear off several categories at once.
Sadly, this is the first year in memory that the live-action and animated shorts marathon won’t get a screening here. I asked a Hollywood 16 employee about it, and he said that their corporate office axed it here because of low attendance. A hearty boo to that. Thankfully, they’re almost all available to screen online.
Personally, at least as of this writing, I lack only five out of the full field of 50 nominees: Children No More: Were and Are Gone, Arco (animated feature film), The Voice of Hind Rajab (international feature), Sirat (international feature and sound) and Kokuho (makeup and hairstyling). Arco and Hind Rajab are now rentable, so I’ll be watching them this week, but it appears that the other three probably won’t be available to watch in time for the big show. Missing out by only three isn’t too bad, but I do so love those years I can see every single nominee
