One of downtown Amarillo’s most flavorful offerings, Mi Gente makes food truck cuisine feel as comfortable and classy as other dining room-only seating options.

Mi Gente stands out as a vibrant culinary gem, seamlessly blending the casual allure of food truck dining with the sophistication of a traditional restaurant setting. Situated cattycorner from Hodgetown, this unique outdoor/indoor food truck setting tantalizes taste buds with its Latin-inspired cuisine, available four days a week.

Unlike typical food truck experiences where patrons order at a window and wait for their name or number to be called from a tiny sliding window, Mi Gente offers a refreshing twist. Diners step into a retrofitted space to order. They have the option to eat in a bright, roomy venue that feels perfectly suited for hosting lunch or dinner crowds, creating an ambiance that rivals any traditional dining establishment. Despite this cozy setup, the kitchen is still situated in the food truck itself, which allows it to operate as a mobile catering service for events and neighborhoods throughout the city.

As a delightful prelude or accompaniment to your meal, every table is treated to freshly-made popcorn, dusted with white cheddar powder and Tajín—a playful yet satisfying snack that perfectly complements Mi Gente’s bold flavors.

Indulging in Mi Gente’s offerings is a culinary adventure in itself. Start with the famed street corn, crafted with New Mexico Hatch green chile, creamy mayo, parmesan, crema Tapatio, and a splash of lime—a savory symphony of flavors that sets the stage for what is to come.

For the main course, the lunchbox special beckons with its choice of two full-sized tacos (choose from carnitas, asada, or calibacita), each nestled in a warm corn tortilla and adorned with tangy pickled red onion and fresh cilantro. Complemented by sides of street corn and fragrant jasmine rice, it is a meal that satisfies both the palate and the soul.

Not to be missed are the Miami Fries, a hearty offering from the “Big Cravings” section of Mi Gente’s menu. Generously portioned and irresistibly delicious, these fries are topped with slow-roasted and falling apart tender pork shoulder, avocado lime crema, pickled red onions and cilantro are sure to leave a lasting impression, tempting you to return for more.

Follow the lead of fellow diners who have enjoyed Mi Gente’s food before and get both the hot red salsa and the hot green salsa. The red salsa burns slow like the start of a great campfire, the heat from the pepper base (adobo, possibly?) reminiscent of the specialty red chile sauces of New Mexico, is brightened by a twist of citrus—which comes through right at the end. The green salsa is a bright and bold tomatillo, which burns hotter than its counterpart. Both are irresistible. From the Steak Fajita Eggrolls to the Picadillo Empanadas, all of Mi Gente’s dishes can (and should!) be doused with both sauces.

To complete the experience, (and to cool the spiciness) sip on a Mexicoke served ice-cold in a classic glass bottle, adding a refreshing touch to your dining adventure at Mi Gente. Whether you’re a local food enthusiast or a visitor exploring Amarillo’s food scene, Mi Gente promises a culinary journey that marries comfort with innovation, wrapping both in food truck charm.
