El Paletón, the sensational ice cream parlor adjacent to Amarillo Boulevard, will host a Trucks and Horchata event Aug. 9. Cool down while watching a truck burnout competition, and enjoy some tunes from the band Paper Route, as well. Organizers say they hope the event starts a revitalization of the Boulevard, which once was one of the major hubs in town. Entry fee is $15 for the burnout. The newly rebranded 55+ Club of Amarillo (formerly Amarillo Senior Citizens Association) will host a Parking Lot Party to raise funds to build a center at its new location. The shindig kicks off at 5 p.m. Aug. 9 at 2404 SW Sixth Ave. The new center will offer local seniors a place to “gather, stay active, and thrive through wellness programs, social events, arts, and lifelong learning,” according to a news release.
