A magical night of manslaughter awaits diners at Cactus Cove Inn & Suites at its Grimshire Murder Mystery Dinner on Aug. 1.
The event, put on by Amarillo Escape and Mystery, begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at the hotel, 2501 E. Interstate 40.
“The celebration turns sinister as the academy’s most illustrious alumni gather to honor the retirement of Headmaster Aldous Everbright,” according to the event page. “The revered headmaster, renowned for his alchemical genius and on the brink of a groundbreaking discovery, is found dead—slumped over his goblet with a half-eaten dragon berry tart beside him.”
Wow. Dragon berries sound even more deadly than iceberg lettuce.
Attendees are encouraged to wear wizard’s robes or other mystical accoutrements.

The new Barrio Event Center, 1529 S.E. 10th Ave., will celebrate its grand opening in a yummy manner: By hosting a Michelada and Jerky Festival.
The party runs from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 1 at the new center.
Prizes will be awarded for the best michelada and best jerky, and attendees also can enjoy a vendor fair, car show and food trucks.
Registration is still open: $75 for vendors, $20 for cars and $100 for food trucks.
The official afterparty begins at 5 p.m. Aug. 1 at Bomb City Distillery, 306 S. Cleveland St., with music from Touching Voodoo at 8 p.m.
