Mickey Foster always wants a homey atmosphere in his eponymous Canyon restaurant, but when it comes to his special dinners, he kicks it up a notch.
Now scheduled quarterly, the dinner events at Mickey’s Place are capped at 50 guests, giving his faithful customers “a place to have a very special evening,” Foster said.
“Renae (his wife) is here with me, so we talk through the menu as we go through it,” Foster said. “Most of those who come are our regulars anyway. So they like the exclusivity and being able to have something different.”
The dinner will offer either wine or whiskey drink pairings with each of its four courses.
“Normally, I just select things that I know how to cook or have been wanting to cook—special stuff that’s not found on my normal menu,” Foster said. “This time, there are some dishes that I wanted to teach my sous chefs, and there’s one dish, a crab cioppino, that’s the recipe of the uncle of one of my regulars.”
First course is Remy’s ratatouille, inspired by the Pixar film, paired either with a pinot noir or a High West whiskey over a whiskey rock.
Up next is Vescere’s crab cioppino, paired with chardonnay or a Penelope whiskey over a whiskey rock.
Third course is a Wagyu Teres Major Wellington with silky potatoes and a red wine rosemary reduction. It’s a popular recipe from famed Chef Gordon Ramsey; in Foster’s opinion, every good chef should have Ramsey’s wellington in their repertoire. It’ll be paired with a cabernet sauvignon or a Garrison Brothers old fashioned.
And finally, based on one of Foster’s sous chef’s recipes, is a lemon ricotta cheesecake paired with a prosecco or a Staggs Jr. whiskey.
Mickey’s first special dinner of 2026 is set for 6 p.m. March 26 at the restaurant, 1512 Fifth Ave. #103 in Canyon. Reservations are $175. For information, call 806-452-7320.
