Acclaimed live-fire chef Steven Raichlen will return to Amarillo on Oct. 1 for Panhandle PBS’s latest Savor the Goods fundraising dinner.

The host of such shows as Planet Barbecue, Project Fire, Project Smoke and Primal Grill, Raichlin is an author and journalist who has explored live-fire cooking techniques and culture around the world.

“That makes bringing him to the Texas Panhandle particularly exciting,” said Tabitha Perkins, the station’s social media and marketing director. “This is a region with deep connections to cattle, barbecue and the idea of gathering around food.”

Raichlin has developed a menu inspired by his long career, including appetizers blistered tomato and ricotta bruschetta with pesto drizzle and Texas Twinkies with an espresso barbecue glaze; entrees Planet Barbecue brisket and smoked chicken with Alabama white sauce; sides brisket baked beans and smoked-roasted German-style potato salad; and desserts Mexican chocolate pudding and a smoked cheesecake with a brown sugar honey sauce.

Raichlin also picked two signature cocktails: Hypocras, a medieval spiced wine, and Katama Kirs, a blueberry champagne cocktail.

The event will begin at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 1 at Arts in the Sunset, 3701 Plains Blvd. But don’t worry: No open-fire cooking will take place at the venue itself.

“All food will be cooked authentically at Tyler’s Barbeque and then transported to the venue, where Tyler (Frazer) and his crew will plate everything, making sure it is perfect for our guests,” Perkins said.

Tickets are $125 or $200 for VIP packages.
