Here’s a confession I don’t often make here in the heart of beef country: I’m not much of a barbecue fan. One rib, one nibble of sausage and a little smoked turkey, and I’m good for a while.
I know I’m very much in the minority there, as evidenced by the overwhelming popularity of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce’s annual Good Times Celebration Barbecue Cook-Off. Now celebrating 29 years, this year’s festivities return at 5 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds, 3301 SE 10th Ave.
One hundred teams and sponsors will be serving up their best smoked and sauced offerings for what’s always a huge crowd. Tickets are $35 in advance or $45 at the gate. For information, visit amarillo-chamber.org/barbecue-
The Canyon Farmers Market closes out its season with its annual Autumnfest, set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday on the downtown square in Canyon. Pondaseta Brewing Co. is splitting its annual Oktoberfest in two this year.
Volksfest kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pondaseta’s Canyon location, 1001 Second Ave., then shifts to the Amarillo spot, 7500 SW 45th Ave., for Part 2 on Oct. 4.
