Entry deadline is Sept. 4 for teams hoping to catch their wings in the Texas Panhandle Builders Association’s Wing Wars.
Cost is $275 for members or $375 for nonmembers, including permit fees and 80 pounds of provided wings.
“We have some people who’ve never competed in cook competitions all the way up to those who have competed in all the cooking competitions in town,” said Beatriz Kimball, TPBA director of operations.
Attendees, who get to eat unlimited wings with their ticket purchase, will vote for their favorite wings in five categories.
“I believe only one team fried their wings last year, and I believe they were the winners in three of the five categories,” Kimball said. “Frying was the winning flavor.”
Kimball also offered another helpful hint: “You can’t go wrong with a good dry rub.”
Proceeds benefit Amarillo Habitat for Humanity.
Festivities run 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12 at Ferguson Home, 5823 Canyon Drive.
Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the gate.
